PSA, VPSA Process and Oxygen Zeolite Introduction

VPSA (Vacuum Pressure Swing Adsorption) and PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) have similar oxygen production processes. Both processes use molecular sieves to selectively adsorb different gas molecules to separate gases. The difference is that the PSA oxygen generator enriches oxygen through pressure adsorption and atmospheric pressure desorption, while the VPSA oxygen generator desorbs oxygen from the saturated molecular sieve under vacuum conditions.
 
Although both processes use air as raw material, the principle of oxygen production is similar. But there are still a few differences:
 
1. The VPSA oxygen generator uses a blower to get raw air and pressurizes it, while the PSA oxygen generator uses an air compressor for air supply.
2. In the selection of the core component - zeolite molecular sieve, the PSA oxygen generator uses sodium molecular sieve (EniSorb 13X-HP), and the VPSA oxygen generator uses lithium molecular sieve (EniSorb Li-X).
3. The adsorption pressure of PSA oxygen generator is 0.55~0.8Mpa, and the adsorption pressure of VPSA oxygen generator is 0.05Mpa.
4. PSA oxygen capacity could reach 200~300Nm/h, and VPSA oxygen capacity could reach 7500~9000Nm/h.
5. Compared with PSA, VPSA has low energy consumption (power consumption per cubic meter of oxygen production is ≤ 0.5 kW), and is more environmentally friendly and green. Although the VPSA oxygen generator has a high oxygen capacity ability, the system design is complex, the equipment volume is also large. The requirements for supporting engineering conditions are stricter, it will take up a large space, and it needs on-site installation and debugging. For small oxygen stations, PSA is relatively better choice.

Working principle:
PSA uses air as raw material, and uses molecular sieves to selectively adsorb nitrogen and oxygen to separate nitrogen and oxygen in the air. Under normal temperature and pressure, ENISORB 13X-HP molecular sieve is used to selectively adsorb impurities such as nitrogen, carbon dioxide and water in the air, thereby enriching oxygen with higher purity.

Air compressor, air dryer, degreasing machine, adsorption towers, oxygen tank, control system
Oxygen production parameters:
Purity: 93±3%
Pressure: 0.55-0.70Mpa
Oxygen Capacity: 45-60Nm3/ton.hr
VPSA

Adsorbent:
EniSorb Li-X Molecular Sieve,
Activated alumina or 13X molecular sieve
Working principle:
The nitrogen and oxygen in the air are sucked into the adsorption tower under low pressure. After the adsorption is saturated, the molecular sieve is desorbed under vacuum conditions, the nitrogen is discharged, and the oxygen enters the purification system. Molecular sieves are continuously adsorbed and desorbed to obtain oxygen with high purity (93±3%).

Blower, vacuum pump, cooler, adsorption towers, oxygen tank, control system
Oxygen production parameters:
Oxygen purity: 93±3% (can be adjusted within the range of 30-95% according to user requirements)
Pressure: -50kpa~50kpa
Oxygen production: 90-100Nm3/ton.hr
